YEAR 13 BIOLOGY FIELD TRIP

YEAR 13 BIOLOGY FIELD TRIP
The students have had a fantastic week in Yorkshire on their field study course. Luckily the weather has been kind and although it's been quite cold we have had no rain. We have spent the week sampling in various locations and habitats including Filey Bay, Top Hill Low Nature Reserve and Dalby Forest. Our pupils have done us proud with their enthusiasm for the tasks and hard work in the classroom.

JOHN DOBAI TALK Holocaust talk

JOHN DOBAI TALK
This week we were privileged to hear from John Dobai who survived the Holocaust and who gave us a personal perspective about life in Hungary before during and after the war. It really was a fascinating yet appalling account of how cruel the human race can be. It provided a message for us all – parents/carers, teachers and students – about how we should never forget what happened but more importantly learn from these dreadful events to make the world a better place in the future. Tolerance respect and understanding for all faiths backgrounds and cultures was the clear message for us all.

Speaker Moira Sinclair talks about careers in the Creative arts

Guest speaker Moira Sinclair visited Townsend last Wednesday to speak to years 11, 12 and 13 about careers in the creative industry and the myths surrounding how to enter the industry.  Moira also explained that lots of non creative degrees and study paths can also work alongside creative ones, working together to compliment each other.  The talk was extremely informative and interesting to hear Moira's own background and how she entered the creative industry too.  Moira was also available for questions after the talk, where lots of students gained some valuable advice from speaking to her.

Feelin Good week so far....

So far for Feelin Good week we have had a number of activities take place, including relaxing meditation techniques and arts and crafts sessions both with Miss Bailey and with STEP in the Discovery Centre.

Today a zumba instructor from BOUNCE is coming in for a zumba workout at lunchtime, and tomorrow we have music provided by Mr Phelps and the music students.  Come along to activities to take part!

Springboard Future Chef competition

Year 8 and 9 students Susanna and Charlie recently took part in the Springboard Future Chef competition, held at Aylesbury College.  For the challenge, the girls had to produce a two course meal for two people costing under £7 - pictured are what the girls cooked.  Also pictured is The Chef in Charge, who was also one of the judges.  He was giving the entrants tips on their presentation and cooking skills.  Finally, the girls are pictured collecting their certificates from the judges of the Competition.  Well done Charlie and Susanna!!
